Is English Language important for you?

.

Miss Ziana asked all of us this three questions:-

1. How many topics in L&C that you find  are useful for you in the future?

2. How can englich language can be important in your life?

3. What can you do to improve your current english language?

Extra information:

Brunei's english language is adapted to our culture, thus it can be difficult for us to study abroad (have to go through several process - english language examination) in which the english language level is harder than we expected. Thus, the students aiming for scholarship should be prepared for this and expand or widen your english knowledge..

We were asked to explain the information that we extracted clearly and loudly. Overall, all 5 groups have done it very well, especiall for the last group (group E - include the Sultan's command @ 'Titah Sultan')

Dismantling Diesel Engine

.

This is the diesel engine that we have to dismantle..

First, we open all of the cover (top area - air inlet chamber)..

After opening the cylinder cover.. the inner parts of the area is also taken out..

Then, we can see the pistons..

The parts that were taken out were properly organized and placed..
After that, we will be cleaning all the parts and perhaps re-assemble it again on next week..

Dismantling Compressor

.

We got to dismantle an old types of compressor, it is an refrigerate compressor (single stage)..

Then, after opening all of the covers.. We found out that the inner parts of compressor were empty..

From other groups, we learn that inlet valve is bigger than the exhaust valve as shown below:-

 Inlet valve
Exhaust valve

Dismantling gate valve

.

My colleagues and I were learning on how to dismantle a gate valve. Here are the steps taken:-

1. Mark the component with a marker.
2. Open all the nuts or unbolt them to separate the components.
3. There is a gate disk inside the valve body where it is taken out using grip flier.
4. Clean all the components by brushing and then apply grease on them except for gate disk.
5. Apply the graining patch on the surfaces of gate disk for lapping to remove scratches and for flat surfaces.
Then, wipe it with a towel (avoid brush - scratches)
6. Then, the general gasket was cut  in a correct shape to fit in the between the end surface og valve bonnet and valve body.
7.The components were re-assembled and the nuts were tighten.

Using centre dot punch and a hammer to make holes for the gasket..

Making and cutting the gasket..
The gasket can be fit perfectly..

A talk in the surau..

.

The topic is about 'Menjana Belia Islam cemerlang'.. It was quite interesting as there were some activities included which made people more aware and awake for the talk.. Is is related about our lifes in which it involves with islamic religion on how it can encourages us to be successful in the future.

Here are some photos taken:-

They were asked to raise their hands..

They were asked to touch their chin.. but instead they follow the talker (touching their forehead instead)
This shows that you need to use all of your six senses..

The schedule time is 10.30a.m. until 12p.m. for morning session where all the three classes of marine department (more or less 65 people) will be the audiences. For afternoon session, it will be held on the class or A.V. Room if available (Monday afternoon for class A, Tuesday afternoon for class B and Thursday afternoon for class C) but the audience will not be as many as in the morning session (One class only). The time is from 2p.m. until 3.30p.m.

Moreover, it will be seven people presenting for each sessions and the estimated time for everyone to finish this presentations is on 22nd April.

Here are the videos for the first two presenters during the morning session:-

Muhammad Wa'ie bin Mohammad Noor
from Marine Engineering 'A'

Muhammad Safwan bin Shafri
from Marine Engineering 'B'

There are also topics such as hydroelectric generator, sailing ships, how do i get started with my blog?, hand & power tools, gas turbine, safety, anchor system, hand tools for workshop and more..

Singing Activities

.

Scared of bugs? Scared of heights? Scared of ghost? Scared of speaking in front of people? There are many things to be scared of, but WHICH ONE ARE YOU? and what is THE MOST SCARIEST thing for you?

Well, most of people scared of public speaking. It doesn't matter if the crowd is big or even small. It is mostly because you are scared of what people may think about you, scared that they cannot accept your presentation, scared that you might forget the details of your presentation, scared that you cannot control your own body or movement since you are shaking so much that it is obvious etc. How can this be? It is because you are not confident enough. Why? because you are not well-prepared.. so what should you do? search more, understand more about your topics and PRACTISE, PRACTISE and PRACTISE.

I have included some videos below.. It is a 'group singing' activity but then you will end up singing alone(video excluded).. For me, it really does makes a lot differences when singing in a group and alone. Since, it feel a lot safer and less humiliation when singing in a group especially when we have a bad voice.

Why sing alone? so that people can hear you, not others but only you.. how? but singing out loud.. It goes the same for presentation, your voice must be loud in order for your audience to listen and try to understand the information that you are trying to deliver. Then, have fun watching the videos... I only included two videos out of six (there are 5 groups and the extra one video is the match of the two person who matched for the winning title)

Doing ED Assignment

.

Yesterday during 'E.C.A' period, my fellow friends and i did our Engineering Drawing (ED) Assignment at the Engineering Drawing room. That day was the first time we have use the room and the equipments provided were very helpful in doing our work. Thus, the outcome of the work may be more satisfying. I hope that everyone can do the work 'cleanly' and excel in every task you are given.

Here are some of the picture taken during that time:-

Trying to understand and get use of the equipments provided.

Everyone taking the work seriously and stay focus.

Final Year Project Presentation for Diploma 2

.

Today, the students form Diploma 2 of Marine Engineering were delivering presentations of their projects. All of the relevant people from the Marine engineering were watching the presentation as audiences. Also, there are also 2 people from the 'Navy Maritime' were invited to observe the whole presentation including the real projects constructed. It is a good idea to let the 'Marine Engineering class A, B and C' to watch the presentation as we can observe and learned how to make a good presentation and perhaps, it will also give us some ideas of what to do for our 'Final Year Project' on next year.

The pictures taken during the event are displayed below:-

One of the important guest who was invited
(Who was sitting on the first row).
The first group that presented their work. It is about Thermal Power Generation..

People paying attention to the presentation..

After the first three group finished their presentation, the important guests were invited to the Marine Laboratory to test and evaluating the project that they have done. While they were doing that, the other students who were about to present their project later, were getting ready and practising for their speech and making sure that their slides and the speakers were good.

The event started around 9 O'clock and finished at 10.45 a.m. So the 'audience' were quickly getting ready to move out (cannot wait to have their break).

Language and Communication (L&C)

.

Today in L&C class, we learn about the things that need to be done and avoided in delivering presentation. Here are some of the tips before presenting:-
 1. Choose and shape your presentation's content
 2. Organize your presentation
 3. Practice an effective delivery style
 4. Select and use visual aids effectively.
 5. Prepare the scripts if necessary

When delivering the presentation, be aware of your:-
1. Stance (Stand straight and tall etc.)
2. Expression
3. Eye contact
4. Speed (Don't explain too fast or slow)
5. Gesture (Be polite etc.)
6. Delivering style (Organize information etc.)
Some of pictures were taken during the class (as displayed below):-

Some students taking notes by typing or writing..
Also, discussing and giving each other opinions about the topics learned today.

Moreover, it is proved that the percentage of people having stage fright are high and one of the reasons is because of lack of confident..

Therefore, Miss Ziana have done an activity in order to make us more confident and brave for this upcoming presentation and also in the future. So she asked all of us to SING together in order to achive our goal (be more confident).. Here are a short video taken during the activity, 'SINGING'...
